Over 100 years ago, fourteen new mothers and their infants came to the home of Christopher Lyman Magee for treatment and care, traveling in horse drawn carriages to their Pittsburgh destination.  Since that time, healthcare services have been provided to women at what is now known as the Magee-Womens Hospital of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).  Their number of admissions has grown from those first early patients to 20,000+ with 10,000+ births annually, and today this leading academic women’s hospital is a frontrunner in innovative state-of-the-art healthcare and research, with a focus on the uniqueness of every woman and the medical care she receives.

As more babies were being born and people began living longer, it became apparent that Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC was outgrowing its facilities.  They embarked on an expansion that increased their total beds to 360 by adding a 14 bed ICU for patients who required intensive care, a 28 bed unit for women with breast and gynecological cancers and an additional obstetrical unit bringing the total ob/gyn beds to 110.

Research conducted at the Magee-Womens Research Institute benefits not only the patients of today, but those of future generations around the world.  Particularly in the area of neonatology, their research has resulted in advances in the treatment of respiratory failure and the innovative use of surfactant and inhaled Nitric Oxide for treating pulmonary hypertension in newborn infants.  Additional achievements include development of pain assessment and ready-to-feed tools, laser eye surgery to reduce or eliminate blindness and co-bedding - placing multiples in a single bassinet together.  Magee-Women’s Hospital has a 71 bed Level III NICU with private rooms that is staffed by highly trained neonatal specialists.

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Pittsburgh, PA:  If you are a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with experience working in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, consider joining this leading women's hospital in their Neonatology ICU.  This NNP will work in a Level III NICU providing primary health care and emergency services to high-risk newborns and infants including obtaining histories, performing physical exams and interpreting lab, radiographic and clinical data for developing plans of care under physician supervision.  This is a full-time rotating shift position with an additional financial incentive for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner willing to cover at two locations based on census.

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Pittsburgh, PA:  This is a great opportunity for a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join one of the top ten academic children's hospitals in the U.S. in their Neonatology Services Department.  This NNP will work in a Level IV NICU at this leading children's hospital.   The NNP in this state-of-the-art 31 bed NICU performs high level diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, initiates emergency evaluation and treatment, makes appropriate referrals for consultations, coordinates discharge planning, participates in ground/air Neonatal transports and provides staff education in addition to patient and family education and support.   This is a full-time, rotating shift position with an additional financial incentive for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner willing to cover at two locations based on census.
