The Award was presented to Dana at the Student Reception during the 2016 NAPNAP Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia last week.

The DNP Student Scholarship is presented annually to support the education of pediatric-focused nurse practitioner doctoral students who demonstrate the ability to articulate and follow through an innovative solution through clinical competence, academic achievement, and leadership, as well as encourage involvement in NAPNAP and promote professional development of the individual students. Each recipient will receive a scholarship of $2,000 to be used for educational expenses.

Dana is currently enrolled in the DNP Program at Illinois State University, Mennonite College of Nursing in Normal, Illinois and expects to graduate in December 2016. She has practiced as a Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for almost eighteen years. Dana decided to pursue her DNP to obtain expertise in evidence based health outcomes. She is experienced in proficiently assessing and treating a variety of presentations in her primary care practice. Prior to her primary care experience, Dana worked as an RN for 5 years at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, part of an amazing team working with children with HIV and Cancer. Dana’s scholarly project in her DNP program focuses on treating pediatric obesity in primary care and the impact of behavior change through the use of educational sessions and pedometers. It is titled, “Evaluation of the Step by Step Program in a Primary Care Pediatric Setting.”

Melnic is so pleased to support Dana’s continuing education and professional development with this Award. Best wishes, Dana, for continued success in your nursing career as you pursue your doctorate! Melnic Consulting Group proudly supports the career growth of advanced practice providers.
