Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children – Pediatric Nursing Jobs

Nemours five-story expansion
Reference: nemours.org
The Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE is a national leader in children’s health care that is committed to helping children grow up healthy and able to reach their full potential. Founded in 1936 from the estate of Alfred I. duPont, this 192-bed children’s hospital was started as a place to improve the health of all children, especially to provide care for pediatric orthopedic patients who needed treatment for conditions such as polio. These children were patients for extended periods of time and the hospital developed a holistic approach to their care, treating not only their medical and educational needs, but providing an environment where children could be children that still exists at Nemours. Their work in Orthopedics has continued through the years as well, and today their Orthopedic Department is ranked #7 in the nation.

The Nemours Children’s Hospital is currently in phase I of an expansion that will be completed in 2014 and will include additional inpatient beds as well as a new facility for their Level II Emergency/Trauma Department increasing the number of bays from 29 to 44. Additionally, Nemours has built a new 95-bed children’s hospital in Orlando, FL that opened in October of 2012. A state-of-the-art place of hope and healing, offering pediatric health care prevention and wellness, it will bring the same excellent health care they are famous for in Wilmington to the children of Central Florida. The new hospital will partner with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine for research and the education of health care professionals.

The Nemours Health System treats 250,000 children every year. They were ranked nationally in nine of ten pediatric specialties in the “Best Children’s Hospitals” report for 2012-13 by U.S. News and World Report, and Parents Magazine ranked them in the Top 25 Best Children’s Hospital in the nation in 2009. These awards are testaments to this premier pediatric health system’s success as they continue to provide outstanding care with the promise to treat every child as if they were their own.

Nemours/duPont Hospital for Children - Big Expansion Plans!

Photo reference: www.nemouors.com
Phase I of their current expansion program continues on schedule as they plan for the future, building on their seventy years of progress helping children grow up healthy and able to reach their full potential.  Scheduled for completion in 2014, this phase of the expansion program will add private inpatient rooms, all with views to the outside, and a new facility for their Level II Emergency/Trauma Department that will increase the number of bays from 29 to 44.

Patients, families and caregivers participated in planning the new space resulting in a place of healing that is fun, bright, spacious and kid-friendly.  Young contributors are pleased that not only have they been asked to participate in plans, but that their suggestions are making a difference and being incorporated, including workspaces with lots of places to “plug in.”  Current patients are involved as well; they go to the windows every day to see what progress has been made on the new building and look for “Ready Freddy,” a figure the construction people move around every day so the patients can play a game, trying to find it each morning.

Parents love the sense of family at Nemours/duPont Hospital for Children and the superb specialty pediatric care patients receive there.  We look forward to watching Phase I grow and to its opening in 2014!  To learn more about the expansion project visit:  www.nemours.com

Located just outside of Wilmington, Delaware, on 300 acres of parkland, the hospital offers the highest level of care in an environment especially geared toward children and a remarkably beautiful and tranquil setting in which to heal. Within the facility, a professional yet friendly atmosphere pervades – DuPont Hospital seems less like a hospital and more like a place kids visit to get better.
