Texas Children's Hospital Ranks Among Best in U.S.

Sixty years ago, Texas Children’s Hospital opened its doors – a three story, 106 bed facility founded for the purpose of treating children. Today, this 464 bed pediatric medical institution, the nation’s largest children’s hospital, is famous not only for the finest patient care available, but for education with their academic partner, Baylor University School of Medicine, and groundbreaking research at its various centers and institutes. Years of rapid expansion and growth have resulted in this hospital being named #4 in the nation on the Honor Roll of U.S. News and World Report's “Best Children’s Hospitals” for 2013-14, ranking in all ten pediatric specialties including #3 in Cardiology/Heart Surgery and Pulmonology, #4 in Gastroenterology/GI Surgery, and #7 in Cancer, Nephrology and Neurology/Neurosurgery.  They are consistently ranked among the top children’s hospitals by Parents magazine, and they have achieved Magnet designation for excellence in nursing and patient care.

Melnic Consulting Group is proud to partner with Texas Children's Hospital to bring them top pediatric advanced practice nursing candidates!

A recent expansion program has added the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, the first basic institute in the world for the study of pediatric neurological diseases and conditions with the goal of finding new treatments and cures. This facility was recently awarded the LEED Gold certification for excellence in green building design. Texas Children’s Heart Center is ranked among the top programs in the nation, and it was the first children’s hospital to implant an artificial heart. They’ve been caring for children’s hearts for over fifty years and currently perform 800 congenital heart surgeries annually. Their heart transplant program is one of the most successful, having performed 260 transplants to date. In addition the Heart Center has three research laboratories working to understand cardiovascular disease and conditions in children leading to breakthroughs in future treatments.

In March of 2012, the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women opened as a resource to provide well woman healthcare through every stage of a woman’s life as well as high quality pediatric, maternal and fetal healthcare. Their maternal fetal medicine center specializes in advanced treatment for the unborn child, and they provide the highest level of neonatal care for complex cases treating premature, critically ill newborns or multiples. They treat 2,500 patients annually in their Level II and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units with 36 private rooms in their NICU, several designed for multiple births. Early in 2012, a set of sextuplets was born in the new Pavilion for Women.
