The Nurse Practitioner in this 12 bed CVICU plans, implements and monitors plans of care for their critically ill patients. They order and interpret laboratory and radiographic tests in addition to performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. All of the CVICU rooms have the leading-edge technology needed to meet the demands of monitoring children with critical care needs after complex surgeries. The clinical specialist Pediatric Nurse Practitioner uses their experience and excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally and collaboratively with patients, families, staff, physicians and health care providers from other departments.

Their 59 bed, Level IV, NICU is one of the largest and most advanced intensive care units in the nation, soon to be a 69 bed unit that will include 30 private beds. It provides the specialized, state-of-the-art medical care required by critically ill newborns and premature infants with complex medical/surgical care needs, some of whom may be recovering from highly complex surgery. The NNP uses their special training and experience to deliver specialized, family-centered direct patient care to these newborn infants.
