PNP Role in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the area of Wound, Ostomy and Continence is a specialized clinical resource and role model responsible for the quality of nursing practice and standards of care for pediatric patients in need of skin, wound, continence and ostomy care.

Children are not just small adults, especially when it comes to wound, continence, and ostomy, their needs are diverse and complex.  PNPs work with inpatients and clinic patients with these complex needs.   Through patient histories, physicals and assessments, advanced practice providers evaluate patient needs.  They make recommendations for treatments, implement interventions and evaluate outcomes.  Advanced practice providers assist, coordinate, delegate, supervise and educate the nursing staff responsible for providing complex wound care to WOC patients, and they ensure continuity of care through effective communication with other care givers.
