The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Complex Care is an advanced role is which the PNP provides care and case management for patients with a multitude of healthcare needs.  The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner delivers Complex Care and appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions.

Managing a caseload of patients, the PNP in Complex Care collects and evaluates health assessment data to manage the plan of treatment throughout the entire patient course. They apply new knowledge gained relevant to pediatric nursing clinical practice. Their strong communication skills assist them as they provide patient and family support and education, incorporating family culture and belief systems of their patients.

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Complex Care is responsible for their continuing professional development, maintaining a current knowledge base of their profession though current literature and attending staff development and continuing education programs. They often participate annually in the Quality Improvement program initiative of their department.
