The PNP in this role uses their advanced knowledge, experience in surgery and/or urology, and clinical expertise to provide specialized care to patients and their families. Specific responsibilities of the PNP in this state-of-the-art surgical unit include admission histories, physicals, assessments, diagnoses, lab tests, plans of care and management of the patient during their entire pre- and post-operative course of treatment in the unit. The advanced practitioner also writes orders for medications and tests and may perform invasive procedures or assist with surgical procedures.
