Join this leading regional hospital in Lansing, MI as the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in their Cardiac Operating Room, providing first assistance to their team of board certified cardiac surgeons as they perform open heart and other major surgical procedures in their Cardiac OR. Performing nearly 300 heart cases every year, these highly skilled experts provide exceptional care in their Heart and Vascular Center. The Advanced Practice Nurse in the department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery supervises, trains, and evaluates nurse practitioners, physician assistants and first surgical assistants, and they are responsible for staffing, orientation and continuing education of physician and surgical assistants. The NP or PA responsibilities include first assisting with open heart, vascular, endo-vascular and thoracic procedures in the OR. They assist with or perform Endo-Vein Harvesting and Radial Artery Harvesting, and they are skillful in using and manipulating surgical instruments and medical devices. They may assist the anesthesiologist as needed. The NP or PA is a nurse leader and role model with excellent communication skills who conveys information to families and health care personnel as appropriate. In addition to pre- and post-op care, the NP or PA provides family and patient education along with discharge planning.
