The PNP in this cardiac role provides clinical management of patients including patient histories, physicals, ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and developing treatment plans. Directing or participating in the management of continuing care, the PNP collaborates and consults with other members of the health care team to ensure cardiac patients are receiving effective, efficient, safe high quality care leading to desired outcomes. This is a great opportunity for an acute care certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with critical care experience to join the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit teams that provide coverage at the main hospital and the suburban community hospital locations of this leading academic children’s hospital. In consultation with and under the direct supervision of the attending physicians, the PNP in this PICU position assesses, evaluates, plans and implements comprehensive medical or surgical care for children who have been injured, undergone surgery or are undergoing special diagnostic procedures. Additional responsibilities of this advanced practice provider include initiating and changing orders for tests and patient care based on the condition of the patient, and identifying and documenting changes or abnormal findings in the condition of patients using appropriate problem solving skills and experience. With a solid knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles, the PICU PNP is an educational resource for other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, patients and their families.
